A new twist is coming to the town’s Symphony in the Park, which lures the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra to Bailey Road Park each June for a themed musical performance, followed by a fireworks show. This year it will include a drone show in addition to the fireworks.

Drone shows have become popular replacement or supplement to fireworks and feature an aerial performance using coordinated, illuminated drones that create animated images, patterns and storytelling displays in the night sky. The Super Bowl, Olympics and numerous New Year’s Eve celebrations have performed them in recent years.

The addition of the drones is part of the celebration around the 30th anniversary of the Cornelius Parks and Recreation Department. Symphony in the Park will be held Saturday, June 20 from 6-10 p.m.
