Town Board Votes Tonight on Novant Proposals
By Dave Vieser — At the Cornelius Town Board meeting tonight commissioners are expected to vote on two rezoning requests from Novant Health for proposed medical facilities on Westmoreland Road and Holiday Lane.
The town’s planning board has recommended approval of the Westmoreland Road project and denial of the Holiday Lane proposal for a freestanding emergency department.
Westmoreland Road
Novant Health is seeking to rezone 8715 Westmoreland Road to allow construction of a one-story, 20,000-square-foot health care facility. The 4.8-acre vacant site, located next to the Alexander Farms development, was previously zoned for a daycare. The Georgia-based applicant later withdrew before any construction began.
At earlier hearings, comments were generally favorable, with some concerns raised about traffic. The planning board recommended approval.
Holiday Lane
The second request involves 3 acres at 19935 Holiday Lane, near Interstate 77 Exit 28, where Novant Health proposes an 11,400-square-foot freestanding emergency department.
The planning board recommended denial, finding the proposal is not consistent with the town’s land use plan.
Both hearings will be held beginning at 6 p.m. at Town Hall and will be live streamed at www.cornelius.org.
