Weekly Weather: Rain today, Cool Temps Follow

Counties throughout the Charlotte metro canceled school this morning ahead of a storm forecast to hit this morning. The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning with potential 60 mph wind gusts and an elevated possibility of tornadoes.

Mecklenburg, Cabarrus and Union counties all canceled classes and after-school activities for Monday. Classes are being held in Iredell County.

Temperatures will plummet as the day goes on, reaching a low of 28 degrees.

Today: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could be severe. Patchy fog between 1pm and 2pm. High near 67. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 14 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Tonight a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 8pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 28. West wind 10 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 46. West wind 7 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Tuesday night Mostly clear, with a low around 27. Northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light north after midnight.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Light and variable wind. Wednesday night mostly clear, with a low around 32.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Thursday night mostly clear, with a low around 42.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 70. Friday night partly cloudy, with a low around 49.

Weekend: Highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s.
