What’s opened and closed on Presidents Day

By Dave Vieser – Is Presidents Day a government holiday? It all depends on what services a resident is seeking to use. It can be confusing, especially for those who have moved from other areas of the country where Presidents Day is a full-blown holiday. Here’s what is open and closed today:
Town of Cornelius: Monday is a regular workday, and Town Hall will be open. In addition, there will be a Town Board meeting tonight. Garbage collection will be normal.
CMS schools: It’s currently a scheduled teacher workday, which means no classes for students. Other CMS workers may be required to work.
Charlotte: City government is closed to observe Presidents Day.
Mecklenburg County: Offices and ABC Stores are open.
State of North Carolina: Regular workday. All state offices are open.
Federal: Official holiday. All federal offices and services closed. That means no mail.
Banks: It all depends on whether they are federally or state chartered. However, most major bank branches are closed because the federal holiday is observed by the Federal Reserve System — and banks typically follow that holiday schedule.
We asked Town Manager Andrew Grant if there has ever been any movement locally to establish Presidents Day as a town holiday. “No, there has never been any effort to make it a town holiday,” he said.

Will early voting be available at Town Hall today?
