Weekly weather: Beautiful forecast to ring in the New Year

Dec. 29. Cooling temperatures in the forecast as the normal winter weather returns. Today might not be the best day to climb up on a ladder and take down Christmas decorations.

Today: Rain, patchy fog and cloudy this morning, then gradual clearing with a temperature rising to near 60 in the morning, then falling to around 46 during the remainder of the day. Southwest wind 15 to 18 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 32 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. Tonight mostly clear, with a low around 26. West northwest wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 44. West northwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Tuesday night mostly clear, with a low around 27. West northwest wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 52. Wednesday night partly cloudy, with a low around 32.

New Year’s Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. Thursday night mostly clear, with a low around 32.

Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 54. Friday night a 30 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Weekend: Chance of rain with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
