Weekender: Sons of Serendip and holiday events galore

Dec. 4. Here’s a look at some exciting things happening this weekend around Lake Norman. Check event links for any last-minute updates or changes.

Thursday, Dec. 4

Owl Prowl

6 pm | Dec. 4. Dive into the nightlife of owls during Owl Prowls at the Carolina Raptor Center. Perfect for families with older children and adults alike. Carolina Raptor Center, Huntersville.

Santa + Crew Cookie Workshop

6:30 pm | Dec. 4. Grab your gal pals and get ready to unleash your inner pastry artist under the guidance of Sweet Little Social. In this workshop, you’ll receive real-time instruction on transforming plain sugar cookies into edible masterpieces. Primal Brewing.

Sons of Serendip: Christmas Beyond the Lights

7 pm | Dec. 4. The group won the hearts of fans and judges alike as finalists on America’s Got Talent (NBC) with their ethereal and emotionally stirring interpretations of pop music, arranged with a unique blend of vocals, harp, piano and cello. Cain Center for the Arts.

Cellos and Chamber Music

7:30 pm | Dec. 4. Students from the studio of Karl Ronnevik perform an evening of solo and collaborative music. Tyler-Tallman Hall at Davidson College. Free and open to the public.

Christmas in Davidson

6-9 pm | Annual tradition with holiday light show, roving entertainment, live nativity scenes, bubble snowflakes, artisan village, a children’s craft area, and more. Main Street, Davidson.

Friday, Dec. 5

Holidays in Huntersville: Tree Lighting

6-9 pm | Dec. 5. Enjoy live holiday music from Holly Hopkins, festive food trucks, children’s entertainment, and the official lighting of the town tree. Veterans Park, Huntersville.

Scrooge in Rouge: An English Music Hall Christmas Carol – Opening

8-11 pm | Dec. 5. This quick-change version of the Charles Dickens classic is set in a Victorian music hall. Warehouse Performing Arts Center, Cornelius.

Thomas Road Band

8:30 pm | Dec. 5. Thomas Road is the leading country music act in the Carolinas. Led by singer Seth Thomas, the group is about bringing a high-octane Country music sound. Boatyard LKN.

Saturday, Dec. 6

Breakfast with Santa

8:30-10:45 am | Dec. 6. All of the good boys and girls are invited to join jolly old Saint Nick and his cheerful elves for a delicious buffet breakfast. Red Rocks Cafe.

Santa’s Winter Wonderland (sensory friendly)

10 am – 1 pm | Dec. 6. We’ll have fun for the whole family including face painting, arts & crafts, and a chance to take a picture with Santa. An ABS Kids’ Psychologist will be on-site to answer any general questions about autism. ABS Kids, Huntersville.

American Legion Annual BBQ

11 am | Dec. 6. Support the Williams Lodge annual BBQ. All proceeds support the North Carolina Masonic Foundation, the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, and WhiteStone Senior Community. American Legion Post 86, Cornelius.

Pictures with Santa

1 pm | Dec. 6. Join us for a jolly day of Christmas cheer. Bring the kids to meet Santa and capture a free festive photo. Lost Worlds Brewing.

The Breakfast Club

8:30 pm | Dec. 6. The longest running, most recognized ’80s tribute band in the United States. Boatyard LKN.

Sunday, Dec. 7

Brunch with Santa

11 am | Dec. 7. We’re turning the pub into the North Pole for one magical day. Bring the whole family for a jolly good time — brunch, pictures with Santa, and plenty of holiday cheer. Harp & Crown.

Chili Cook-off

1 pm | Dec. 7. Bring in your best chili for three randomly selected judges. Cash prizes. Kilted Buffalo Langtree.

Immersive Nutcracker Experience

1-3 pm | Dec. 7. Friends ages 4-12 are invited to spend the day as “Clara” at the Christmas Eve Party and waking up in The Land of Sweets. Event is $40 and you can add a Nutcracker for $15. The Worship Movement, Huntersville.

Carolinas Ugly Sweater 5K

2:30 pm | Dec. 7. The best way to prepare for Christmas. Walkers, strollers and pets are all welcome to participate in the 5k walk/run. There is a 1k Elf Run for kids. Jetton Village.

Christmas Vespers

7 pm | Dec. 7. A time-honored tradition in the Davidson community. The traditional candlelight worship service features beautiful choral music provided by the Chorale and the Davidson Chamber Singers. Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
