Nov. 21. By Ryan Moxon. The undefeated Huskies football team faces its first real test in months tonight as No. 5 seed West Forsyth visits Hough for the third round of the NCHSAA 8A playoffs.
West Forsyth enters at 10-2, with its only losses coming at Richmond Senior and perennial powerhouse Grimsley. The Titans have allowed just 17 total points over their last six games.
Hough, the top seed in the West, has performed well this season against teams built around strong running attacks. They’ll be challenged tonight by a massive offensive line that has helped senior running back Mozes Morris average more than 122 rushing yards per game. Morris is also the Titans’ leading scorer, with 23 rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, West Forsyth’s sizeable front is anchored by senior defensive end Dayiel Elridge, who has six sacks this season. In the secondary, junior defensive back Jozian Nicholson leads the team with six interceptions.
In the other Western Region matchup, No. 2 seed West Charlotte hosts No. 3 seed Myers Park. The winner of that game will face the winner of tonight’s matchup at Hough next Friday for a berth in the 8A state championship game.
Tickets cost $10 on the Go Fan app and the game will be live streamed on NFHS Network.
