County helping those in need this Thanksgiving

Nov. 19. Mecklenburg County will host a holiday turkey distribution Saturday, Nov. 22, to help families celebrate Thanksgiving.

Registration is open for the drive-thru event, which will take place at the Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center in Charlotte.

The county is partnering with Nourish Up and Food Lion to distribute 1,000 turkeys, along with additional food items for a complete holiday meal.

“The need for food and nutrition assistance in Mecklenburg County is still pressing,” County Manager Mike Bryant said. “With the turkey distribution event, we’re providing some of our vulnerable residents an opportunity to have a meaningful traditional meal as we head into the holiday season.”

Participants must register for a specific pickup time. Priority will be given to individuals and families receiving SNAP benefits, and participation in the program will be verified before the event. Registrants who are not active SNAP participants will be placed on a waitlist and notified if turkeys become available.
