Sept. 17. The annual Lake Norman Empowerment Festival takes place this Saturday at Smithville Park, beginning at 5 p.m. The free, family-friendly event is the largest outdoor gospel gathering in Mecklenburg County.
Now in its 19th year, the festival is hosted by Tonya Rivens, a longtime television reporter and former public information officer with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
This year’s program features performances by John P. Kee, known as the “Prince of Gospel Music,” Pastor Tim Rogers and trombonist Buff Dillard, among others. Children ages 5 to 13 can also participate in a free basketball clinic led by the Livingstone College women’s basketball team.
The festival will also include inspirational vendors, food and other activities.
The event is presented in partnership with the Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department.
