MECK Pre-K reaches record enrollment

July 10. MECK Pre-K has registered more than 1,830 children for next year, a record number since its launch in 2018. MECK Pre-K is Mecklenburg County’s free, high-quality pre-K program for all four-year-olds, available at no cost to families.

Facilities that host MECK Prek-K are primarily private, accredited daycares that go through a lengthy approval process. While most facilities are located in Charlotte, local options include Kid City USA in on West Catawba in Cornelius and Cadence Academy Preschool near Kenton Place.

MECK Pre-K is a initiative of the County Manager’s Office, introduced to help address economic mobility in Charlotte-Mecklenburg so that a child’s Zip Code does not define their future.

Parents interested in applying can visit MECK Pre-K to submit an application.  In person applications can be filed at Ella B. Scarborough Community Resource Center at 430 Stitt Road in Charlotte on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; or Valerie C. Woodard Community Resource Center at 3205 Freedom Dr. in Charlotte on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
