Open hearings on town budget resume June 2

May 20. By Dave Vieser. It was a quick, quiet town board meeting on Monday evening. With Mayor Woody Washam away, Mayor Pro Tem Scott Higgins ran the meeting in front of a small audience.

Proposed budget: Only one citizen asked to speak about the proposed 2026 budget, which would hold the line on the town property tax rate. The tax rate would stay 17.31 cents per $100 valuation. That amounts to approximately $865 in local taxes for a home assessed at $500,000.

The budget hearing continues June 2.

Volunteer Awards: Three Lake Norman Teen Council members—Mokshitha Rao Peddola, Deetya Saravanan and Pranavi Karamsetty—were recognized for providing over 100 volunteer hours in a school year and for their dedication to community service.
