Chief Dunn to retire in Davidson

Chief Penny Dunn

Sept. 13. Davidson Police Chief Penny Dunn plans to retire at the end of January. Dunn, who became police chief five years ago, started her law enforcement career in 1986 and served with the San Marcos Police Department in Texas, eventually working her way up to assistant police chief before coming to Davidson.

“With the assistance of town leaders and elected officials, it has been so gratifying to grow the Davidson Police Department over the last five years to better serve our community. I know we have collaboratively taken steps together as a town to offer transparent, quality police work that protects all those who live, work, and play in this beautiful town,” said Dunn, who prefers to be called Penny in casual conversation.

Town Manager Jamie Justice said Dunn worked diligently to create a structure in the department that allowed “more leaders to step forward, increased accountability, and strengthened the foundation upon which our next Chief of Police can build.”
