Habitat announces scholarship 

Feb. 11. The 2020 application is now open for students of Our Towns Habitat for Humanity families to continue their education as part of the Build Your Career Scholarship program. The annual scholarship provides up to $2,000 in funding for college, community college or trades education classes.

The 2019 scholarship was awarded to UNC Greensboro student, Shaniya Turner of Mooresville. She expects to graduate this year with a degree in social work. This is the second year the scholarship has been funded by founders Bill and Donna Kenney.

To be eligible, scholarship applicants must: 

• Have lived in an Our Towns Habitat for Humanity home for at least 12 months and be a Habitat mortgage holder in good standing, or the spouse, child or legal dependent of the mortgage holder

• Be a high school senior or graduate, have a GED certificate or be a current postsecondary undergraduate or nontraditional student

• Be eligible and plan to enroll for a minimum of three credit hours or the equivalent per term for the 2020-21 academic year in an undergraduate degree or certificate program of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical program

• Have financial need, as demonstrated by submitting any college financial aid award letter.

Build Your Career Scholarship funds will be awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year. The deadline for submissions is March 31.
