COVID update Dec. 13

Dec. 13. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 2,168 new COVID cases statewide, down from 3,606 new cases reported on Friday. Statewide hospitalizations continued to climb, reaching 1,550 in today’s NCDHHS report.

Positive tests

The positive test rate statewide was 8.6 percent in today’s NCDHHS report; in Mecklenburg, 8 percent.

Deaths

The NCDHHS today also reported 34 new deaths statewide, two of them in Mecklenburg.

Mecklenburg

North Carolina’s first case of the omicron variant was reported last week at UNC Charlotte where a student tested positive. The student was isolated and has recovered. Exposure was limited, with only one known contact, according to the Mecklenburg County Health Dept.

There were 846 new cases reported county-wide between Friday’s report and today’s.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)

• Cornelius: 28 new cases, 4,243 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 18 new cases, 2,483 cumulative total, 19 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 66 new cases, 9,392 cumulative total, 74 deaths cumulative total.

On this date one year ago there were 6,819 new cases and 2,520 people hospitalized in North Carolina due to the coronavirus.
