Historic Cornelius guided walking tour, Oct. 19
The Cornelius Historic Preservation Commission invites you to participate in a guided walking tour on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. to learn more about the rich history of Cornelius. The tour will last approximately one to one and one-half hours.
The Town Hall parking lot (21445 Catawba Avenue) is the starting point for the North of Catawba walking tour which is approximately 1.25 miles. Along the way of this fairly level route you will learn about when and how the Town was incorporated, find out what the Stough-Cornelius Cotton Mill meant to the Town, see homes dating back to 1896, and hear local lore that troops made camp in Cornelius during the Revolutionary War on their way to the Guilford Courthouse.
The walking tour promotes the work of historic preservation, encourages exercise suitable for the entire family, and educates students, residents, and visitors about the evolution of Cornelius.
(In the event of inclement weather, the North of Catawba walking tour will be offered Saturday Oct. 20 at 10 a.m.)
